My healing path taught me that healing was not just about one root cause to discover, nor was it just my body that needed healing. True healing came in layers upon layers, with self-discovery, connection to myself, learning to have self-love and trust, finding safety, and learning to heal my mind, body, and spirit in the process. It was a true holistic approach of seeing how it is all interconnected and all needed to be seen, felt, and healed. Year after year of only focusing on trying to heal my gut failed to heal me because I did not realize how the mind needed to be healed as well. And once I was able to help heal the mind it opened me up for creativity and connection that I never understood or allowed having lived a life of survival.
What I learned in this process was that it may be the spiritual connection that may have healed me the most. Learning to trust the unseen, intuition, nudges, and unconditional love that was always around me just not where I was previously looking, and trusting in things far greater than comprehension, all helped heal me. I slowly built more trust, slowly started to believe that the body itself was not just flesh but completely magical and electric, and that nature, the elements, the universe, or whatever it is you may personally believe in, are completely amazing. Learning to have trust and my own spiritual practice was a complete game changer in my health; suddenly my body and the world were not against me but were all there supporting me. I finally felt the connection and magic that I had always been looking for. I needed to heal all parts of me, including the woo woo.
As a newly spiritual, or woo woo, person, I started to question if it was in alignment to also love fashion, or if that was coming from my ego versus my heart. What I learned was that it was not only something that I loved and brought me joy, but that adding to the beauty all around us is also healing. If I love the creative process of putting together a fun outfit that may put a smile on myself and others, may bring a spark of color they needed, or just holding my head higher and adding to beauty, that is in alignment. I am following a passion, enjoying getting dressed, and feeling great about myself. Not to mention, I am healing the little girl in me that went back and forth between homes her entire childhood and never had the right thing to wear at either house. I am taking back that control and order in my adult life and resetting my nervous system creating a safe space when I get dressed. I am healing. By many accounts, your wardrobe can most definitely be part of your woo woo.
As a person that has worked with countless fantastic experts over the years, had a great stint in the fashion industry in my earliest career, loves all things organization and woo woo, and was on a ten-year healing journey herself, I am here to help bring in the woo woo to your home including your closet. To me a clean, organized, decluttered and curated closet is not only pleasing to go into, but I genuinely believe that it brings some peace and organization to your mind. A closet can be a source of inspiration, order, creativity, and healing, and it can be part of your woo woo. Here are ten ways to woo woo your wardrobe.
- Start fresh and clear the energy. Very carefully, sage and or palo santo your closet. I use sage and palo santo daily for clearing and renewing the energy, typically right before I go into meditation. I love the ritual of it, and the intention. If we are going to woo woo your wardrobe, let us start with the good energy and juju.
- Declutter it all. I know it sounds obvious, but I cannot do anything with a place out of order. I always need to have everything put away even before I pack a suitcase. I want to be able to see everything and know it is in the right place. Clear the clutter and the space and have everything put in its place. That will help with the flow of creativity and give you some extra mental space.
- Now get rid of everything. Okay, not everything, but it is time to purge! Purging is extremely cathartic for me and always has been. I love nothing more than removing items from my closet I am no longer using, loving, or are fitting me. I find joy in donation piles and selling piles, and love to sell enough items before I bring something new in. I love looking at a well-curated closet of only items that I absolutely love and use often. Additionally, go through every single item to feel the energy or invoke the memory from that item. Remember, it is all energy, and you only want the good energy in there. If you went on a bad date or had an unpleasant experience or memory come up while touching that item, it’s gone! I do not care if you love it, it is old, has bad energy and we want it out. It may make someone else incredibly happy. You are removing that snakeskin from the past and are all about bringing in the good vibes with this closet. Be a ruthless purger in your closet. Think of it as part of your detox protocol.
- Bring in a new item that gives you a pep in your step. If you are selling items, do you have a little money to spend on something you love? Is there a piece of clothing, shoes, or bag you have had your eye on forever that could be the perfect wardrobe addition? Purchasing this, provided you have the funds to afford it, shows the universe that you are abundant and worth it, not to mention adding to the beauty all around you. We want that closet to be beautiful if you feel comfortable getting something in there that feels gorgeous, fun, luxurious, abundant, or whatever term you are looking for. Beauty, abundance, joy, and self-love are all woo woo.
- Invest in pretty hangers. I am in my rose petal color feminine phase and bought light pink felt hangers with gold hooks, and I am in love with them. They evoke happiness, femininity, and order every time I look at them. They were not expensive but the look and feel they provide are priceless. Having an elevated hanger game is a game-changer. You can thank me later. No wire hangers!
- The next two tips I learned from my fabulous intuitive, Susette, and give her all the due credit for this, as well as many more insights I have learned from her over the years. Make sure all your clothes are facing to the right, not the left. That is, the front buttons of a shirt, and all shirts, should be to the right. The right means you are facing your future, whereas the left is living in the past. Take the time to switch all your clothes and see what changes that may bring into your life. See ya later ex-boyfriends, we are moving on now.
- In addition to your hangers to your right, make sure all your shoes on the ground are facing out. Meaning, the front part of the shoe faces towards the door. That signals that you are “ready to go” and are keeping that forward momentum going. No more piles of shoes or throwing them into the closet, make the orderly and facing the door. Bring on the momentum.
- Purchase pretty storage containers if necessary. Are your swimsuits, socks, belts, or bags hidden or shoved somewhere which could be improved? I added affordable white containers from Target to my closet for swim, lingerie, socks, and sports bras to keep them organized and not a scary mess to go through. Keep that organization system going and keep it beautiful.
- Review a feng shui map of the home and locate where the closet is located within that chart. For instance, my closet is in the far right corner from my front door, in my love and relationships corner. Because of this location, I have added the proper elements for that corner into my closet such as a heart-shaped rose quartz crystal, and other small red and pink elements and hearts. Take a moment to read about what element may be helpful to add to your closet to assist and elevate the energy there, especially if it’s a part of your life that you are looking to improve.
- The importance of color psychology with your closet. I prefer to organize my closet by colors and patterns, and I tend to add specific colors in my closet based on what stage of life I am in, knowing color psychology and the colors of our chakras. For instance, in my year of healing I was gravitating towards cozy green sweatshirts and jackets. Green represents healing and nature, but also our heart chakra, and I happened to be in nature healing my heart. It was no coincidence that was the color I was being guided to wear. Currently I am in my stage of life where I am learning to be more vocal and am subsequently being pulled to blue for the first time ever. Blue is our throat chakra and represents peace and intellect. Think of what you are currently working on in your life and review the chakra colors, as well as a color psychology chart. The colors can not only help with healing a part of you that may need to be healed but can also help invoke a feeling you want to convey that day. There’s likely a reason behind what color you are being pulled to wear.
The most important thing to remember in all of this is to do what will help you the most. Follow your own instinct and internal guidance as that is as woo woo as it gets.
