The Energetics and Healing in Decluttering

I have worked with many fantastic specialists throughout my healing journey and learned so much from each of them.  One that absolutely stands out was a medical intuitive.  I’ve written about more of my work with her in my book and how I was able to prove within the first appointment that her work was legitimate, when what she was telling me from an energetic perspective completely aligned with the tests I was running with my naturopath at the same time, only I didn’t tell her about these tests and the results.

The biggest thing I learned from my work with her was that “everything starts with energy,” as she would say.  I did not totally grasp it at the time, but boy was that seed planted in me, I just needed more time to let it grow and sprout to fully grasp how big that statement was.  Energy is everywhere and everything, from our emotions (which are energy in motion), to everyday objects all around us.  They all hold an energetic imprint, a memory, a feeling, or a vibration.  These objects can also be either lifting us up such as roses with their high frequency or holding us back in the case of holding onto something that may evoke a negative memory or feeling.  Knowing that is the case, it is time to take a good look at everything all around us from this perspective and assess what may be holding us back.

I am an enthusiastic fan of being minimal and keeping things orderly and organized.  In fact, I absolutely love moving because it is a chance to go through every single item down to all the paperwork I have kept, to see what needs to stay or go.  I review everything and see if it is really needed for the next stage of my life and touching everything I own to make sure it is something that feels good, invokes a good feeling, and is worthy of being part of my next journey.  I am not just about being minimal for sake of minimalism, but I see excess stuff as clutter not just in your home but cluttering your mind.  If it is in a big mess somewhere or unattended to in your home, it is taking up unnecessary space in your brain and it needs to be tended to.  Think of it as doing shadow work for your home; it is time to face those dark, ignored nooks and crannies, shine a light on them, and clear it out.

Not only does it alleviate more space within your body, but I believe that old “stuff” with old, stagnant energy is part of what may be holding people back.  Think of a snake that needs to shed old layers as part of their growth process and life cycle journey, we too can get rid of the old to let go of a past that we need to grow from.  I have been a fan of curating my things as far back as I can remember.  My friends would joke that I just moved with the trends a little too quickly and too costly at times, but when I was over something I was over it.  It needed to go, out of my home, into a pile for donations, selling, or sent to my friends or family, but it was no longer part of my life.  I even sold my wedding dress as soon as it was off my body and recirculated it to a woman that was able to buy her dream dress.  I cried, she cried, it felt wonderful.  I just did not see any use for holding onto it for the sake of holding on to it; it was meant for more, someone else’s happiness, journey, or cycle of growth.

Every single item in your closet can invoke a feeling, a memory of when you wore it, a feeling of how you felt when purchasing it, a resonance with the color of the item and how you feel wearing it, or if it even currently aligns with other items in your wardrobe or where you currently are in your life.  Were you happy and filled with abundance while purchasing it, or was it when you were down, rushed, stressed, or just needing something quick and you absolutely did not love it?  Did you have a bad date in that outfit, or did a negative event occur?  How do you feel when wearing that color or pattern?  Do those jeans piled up all still fit you well and are flattering?  Are those jean shorts piled up still in style?  Do you really wear and love all those shoes?  Okay, then what about all your hats?   Do you still need and love every single tee shirt you have, or swimsuit?

Go through it all, all!  Really!  How do they make you feel or what memory are they invoking?  If any of those answers were not positive and you are able to let it go, do it!   Release that layer and you will feel lighter.  This stuff is holding you back and keeping you in your past.  You have outgrown that snakeskin, and it is time to move on.  As I learned in a business class in college, it is a sunk cost already.  Let it go!

When I sold my home of eleven years without much of a plan, my friends were shocked at my decision to hold an impromptu estate sale and sell it all.  To me, it was part of that old story, both the home and belongings.  It was a marriage, divorce, ex-boyfriends, getting and maneuvering a diagnosis, heartbreak, losing two dogs, changing jobs, and more.  It was not all bad as there were countless amazing memories too, but they were all part of my old story, and I was ready for a new one.  I did not want the old energy to carry with me into my new present.  I was releasing it all to energetically move forward as well, no longer having that old weight hold me down.  Everything must go!

With each subsequent move to different states, I changed up my wardrobe.  Not entirely, but slowly, piece by piece, leaving the outdated version of me behind in that last state.  I also preferred to sell pieces to help recoup the money from them and place it towards something new.  Additionally, I like to have key pieces that I absolutely love, rather than holding onto a lot of stuff.  My wardrobe is curated to perfection, with pieces for sale on Poshmark that I will not even keep in my closet while they are for sale.  I have already energetically moved on from them, even though they are still fantastic pieces.  I see no need for them to just take up space and energy in my closet when they could be making someone else’s day and adding it to their curated wardrobe.

In my view, shedding these layers is a big part of letting go of the past and being present.  Additionally, do we know that doing the same thing repeatedly creates the same outcome, so by the same deduction is not it worth taking inventory of the things around you and really switching things up?  Should we face those scary filing cabinet or closet corners and finally bring them into the light to let that chaotic corner of our lives receive the peace and clearing that it needs?  For what are you waiting?  It is time to release to grow, like the fabulous snake that you are.  If everything is energy, what energy do you want to keep around you?  Let’s curate the absolute best environment to be the best, most healthy, vibrant and fabulous you that you can be.  You got this!
